Production begins Sept. 19 on the upcoming “Sex and the City” film starring stage and screen actresses Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon.
The New Line Cinema feature, “Sex and the City: The Movie,” is scheduled to be released May 30, 2008, according to an announcement.
The new film reteams the stars of the candid HBO comedy series with the show’s executive producer Michael Patrick King — who writes and directs. Reprising their turns as the four sociable New Yorkers are Parker (Wonder of the World, Annie), Nixon (The Women, Hurlyburly), Cattrall (Whose Life is it Anyway?) and Davis (The Exonerated).
Also slated to appear are their beaus from the series finale: Chris Noth (Gore Vidal’s The Best Man), David Eigenberg (Take Me Out), Evan Handler (Six Degrees of Separation) and Jason Lewis. Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson (“Dreamgirls”) joins the cast in the role of assistant to Carrie Bradshaw (Parker).
Created by Darren Star, “Sex and the City” was based on the book by Candace Bushnell. The series — shot in New York City — provided many guest turns for stage stars. Among the performers who appeared were Mario Cantone, Anne Meara, Lynn Cohen, Frances Sternhagen, Jennifer Coolidge, Nathan Lane, Julie Halston, Katie Finneran, Julia Murney, Marian Seldes, Marc Kudisch, La Chanze, John Slattery, Craig Bierko, David Aaron Baker, Orfeh, Robert LuPone, Justin Theroux, Bobby Cannavale, Ron Rifkin, Gerry Bamman, Kristen Johnston, Wallace Shawn, Matthew Morrison, Tamara Tunie, John Dossett, Christopher Sieber, Mary Testa, Daniel Sunjata, Jose Llana, Becky Ann Baker, André De Shields, Amy Sedaris and more.
